Hluhluwe River Lodge
Hluhluwe River Lodge is situated on the western boundary of the
iSimangaliso Wetland Park and is located on a promontory with sweeping
views of False Bay and the Hluhluwe river floodplain.
The 12 thatched roofed chalets are separately located around
the main lodge in the shade of an indigenous forest, where the
beautiful forest dwelling antelopes the shy Red Duiker and Nyala are
often seen browsing.
The lodge runs scheduled game drives to the Hluhluwe
iMfolozi Park every morning and evening and offers a variety of
adventure activities including horse trails, mountain bike trails, a
riverboat birding tour and self guided walks. The coastal and marine
reserves of Sodwana Bay, Cape Vidal and St Lucia are just an hour’s
drive from the lodge.
Room Description at :
Standard Double Chalets: Each of the eight standard chalets are built on stilts with thatch roofs and wooden decks.Each room is accessed via a wooden ramp leading onto a
covered wooden deck appointed with comfortable chairs and a coffee
table. Double glass doors and a glass-fronted apex above the
entrance facilitate a well-illuminated environment with views out into
the forest. The chalets are fully air-conditioned with queen-sized beds
and an en suite shower, separate toilet and vanity area. The chalets are spread about the forested garden environment
and within the forest canopy affording a cool and relaxing atmosphere
at all times.There is a tea and coffee tray with a supply of our famous rusks.
Two Family Chalets: There are two family chalets specially designed for a family with two small children.
These open plan thatched chalets have a double bed
arrangement for parents and a dormer set off to one side with two single
childrens' beds. There is a drawable curtain to separate the children’s beds from the rest of the room. There is an en suite shower with a double basin vanity area and a separate toilet. The chalet has a substantial luggage rack and storage area
as well as a cupboard. The chalet is air-conditioned and equipped with
mosquito nets during the summer months. There is a large deck off the front of each chalet with
comfortable chairs and a coffee table and in the chalet is a tea and
coffee tray with a supply of our delicious rusks.
Two Honeymoon Chalets: There are two luxuriously appointed honeymoon suites tucked away in a forested ravine just a short walk from the main lodge.
These thatched chalets are made with natural materials on an
open plan design with a large deck and slide away doors to take
advantage of the beautiful forest surrounds.
With a King size bed and a suspended mosquito net the room
exudes a romantic atmosphere in a natural setting. A Victorian bath is
on one side of the main room with views into a tangle of giant trees
and pristine forest. There is also a separate shower and toilet and a
double basin vanity area.
The room is fully air-conditioned and a drinks service is available to the room from the main lodge bar.
There is a tea and coffee tray in the room along with a supply of our famous rusks.

Game drives: Guests staying at Hluhluwe River Lodge on the fully inclusive package have one game drive per day, to Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park, included in their rate. Game drives are also available to DBB guests at the extra cost.
Birdwatching River Cruise: A short walk from the lodge is the Hluhluwe River where you will go on a leisurely birdwatching trip, lasting 2 hours. Enjoy sundowners and snacks as the sunsets in the company of a variety of riverine and water birds.
Mountain Bikes: Guided and self-guided mountain bike trails for the active type looking for some adventure and beautiful scenery.
Eco Quad Trail: Take a 2 hour fun ride or a 4 hour cultural exploration with the community guide and visit a rural village. For more experiencd riders there is a 5 hour adventure ride.
Sandforest Drive: False Bay Park is an extremely diverse botanical biome. It is home to sandforest and the Lebombo Wattle – one of South Africa’s rarest and most remarkable trees. Explore the forest and learn about traditional and medicinal uses of the many fascinating plants and trees of the area.
Horse Trails: A 2 hour ride through the forests of False Bay Park. You can see Hells Gate from a unique view point on the eastern shores of Lake St Lucia. Fantastic birdlife, butterflies, wildlife and safe riding for all ages.
Children’s Policy: Children 3 years & under free of charge. Children 4 - 12 years & under pay 50% of adult rate. Children under 12 years in own room pay 75% of adult rate. Two family chalets available, allows 2 children sharing with parents.
